Venture Studio
VE LAB is a studio. We start ventures that compound value through ownership and empathy instead of extraction — across music, AI, energy, and community — and we build the tools that build them.
What we believe
Most software makes you a tenant: you rent the tool, your data lives on someone else's platform, and the meter never stops. We think that's backwards. The durable advantage isn't the model or the platform — it's the owned workflow, the owned data, and the brand wrapped around them.
So VE LAB starts ventures that hand ownership back to the operator. Each one is a different substrate — music, energy, AI tooling — running the same thesis. Returns for performance are superlinear — a studio captures that, a fund doesn't. And VE LAB itself came from a project, not a plan: MINY was the seed, not a strategy.
rent → seat → meter never stops own → worker → keys in your hand

Team
A small studio. We work in founder mode — alongside the venture, not above it.
Founder
Systems, strategy, and the stack the studio runs on. Alet sets the architectural bet and keeps ownership honest with the people each venture is for.
Forward-deployed engineer
Turns studio bets into running software — agents, self-hosted infra, products operators can actually own. Full-stack, in the work, not on the sideline.
Field Notes
Research and points of view from inside the work — published openly, not gated behind a contact form.
Which AI labs actually release the recipe? 12 labs scored across 7 transparency dimensions — open weights vs open source, with the training-data column as the dividing line.
BriefingA 30-day read on the open-source AI debate — open-washing, declining transparency, and the geopolitics of open weights.
How we work
We don't write checks and wait. We build — brand, strategy, product, and the runbooks to operate it — and we keep ownership honest with the people the venture is for. The same instruments that scope a venture (friction journals, beachhead workbooks, ethics audits) double as the qualification engine for who we build with. We work in founder mode, not manager mode — we build alongside you, not above you.
Every venture is designed to keep running even if VE LAB steps away. That's the whole point.
Founder's note
The services playbook still sells tools and walks away. Too much tech for tech's sake. Too little ownership. Too "what's the next shiny algorithm?" VE LAB is a studio: we stay in the work until the operator owns it.
We're not an agency pitching generic solutions. We build the workflow with you — brand, product, and the runbooks to run it — then hand over the keys. The point is owned ventures, not a rented stack. When the system compounds, the people who do the work should keep the upside.
AI is a worker you can own, not a subscription you rent. Used well, it takes the repeatable load so people can do the judgment, the taste, the relationships. Not replacement. Ownership.
The thesis is simple: own the workflow, build owned ventures. We connect the job that actually eats the week with software the operator can keep — and we measure that by whether it still runs if the studio steps away.
Curiosity is our deal-flow signal. We back founders building what they can't explain why — the things that sound lame at first and turn out to be the next Twitch, the next Airbnb. See the method →
Let's build it — together.

If you're an operator with a real, repeatable job eating your week — or a founder who wants to own what does your work — we'd like to hear about it. Or you're building something you can't explain why. We like those.
